چکیده

Uniformly Redundant Arrays (URA’s) are two–dimensional binary arrays with constant sidelobes of their periodic autocorrelation function. They are widely agreed upon to be optimum mask patterns for coded aperture imaging, particularly in imaging systems with a cyclic coded mask. In this paper, a survey of all currently known construction methods for URA’s is given and the sizes and open fractions of the arrays resulting from each construction method are pointed out. Alternatives to URA’s for situations in which a URA does not exist, are discussed.

Useful Classes of Redundant Arrays for Imaging Applications

We discuss several classes of redundant arrays. These arrays have applications for indirect imaging in a variety of elds including coded-aperture imaging, interferomet-ric radio imaging, and optical imaging in the presence of atmospheric turbulence. The speciic classes we will discuss are all based on Galois elds and include: antisymmet-ric redundant arrays (ARAs) which have as a subset the hex...

On the Optimum Directivity of Uniformly Spaced Broadside Arrays of Parallel Half-Wave Dipoles (RESEARCH NOTES)

The nominal directivity for uniformly spaced broadside parallel half-wave dipoles associated with a uniform excitation is evaluated. The amplitude distribution for an optimized directivity is then obtained for different numbers of elements with the separations between the dipoles as a variable. The optimum and nominal directivities are compared for different spacings of the elements. While thes...

Coded aperture imaging: predicted performance of uniformly redundant arrays.

Uniformly redundant arrays (URA) have autocorrelation functions with perfectly flat sidelobes. The URA combines the high-transmission characteristics of the random array with the flat sidelobe advantage of the nonredundant pinhole arrays. A general expression for the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has been developed for the URA as a function of the type of object being imaged and the design parame...

Coded aperture imaging: the modulation transfer function for uniformly redundant arrays.

Coded aperture imaging uses many pinholes to increase the SNR for intrinsically weak sources when the radiation can be neither reflected nor refracted. Effectively, the signal is multiplexed onto an image and then decoded, often by computer, to form a reconstructed image. We derive the modulation transfer function (MTF) of such a system employing uniformly redundant arrays (URA). We show that t...

Complementary Lattice Arrays for Coded Aperture Imaging

In this work, we propose the concept of complementary lattice arrays in order to enable a broader range of designs for coded aperture imaging systems. We provide a general framework and methods that generate richer and more flexible designs compared to the existing techniques. Besides this, we review and interpret the state-of-the-art uniformly redundant array designs, broaden the related conce...
